An original practice notice
Practice notice: From 09:00 to 15:00 on Tuesday, the eastbound Library stop is closed. Eastbound passengers should use the temporary stop at Market. Westbound service is unchanged. Ask the service desk for accessible-route information.
This notice is fictional and is not an operating instruction for a real transit agency.
Questions
- Does the notice say the Library stop is closed all day?
- Which direction must use the temporary stop?
- Does it establish that every passenger can use the same walking route to Market?
- What happens to westbound service according to the notice?
Read the answers
1: No. It specifies 09:00–15:00 on Tuesday. 2: Eastbound. 3: No. It directs readers to the service desk for accessible-route information; inventing an accessible path would go beyond the text. 4: The notice says westbound service is unchanged.
A repeatable reading method
Underline the affected service, direction, start and end times, and the stated action. Notice limiting words such as “only”, “except” and “until”. When an answer option adds something the notice does not say, treat that addition as unconfirmed even if it sounds plausible.
Why explanations matter
An incorrect answer may reflect a missed word rather than a lack of local knowledge. Write down the sentence that proves your answer. If you cannot identify one, check whether the question asks you to infer something or whether you have simply guessed. Do not use personal familiarity with a route to override the supplied passage in a practice reading question.
For local practice, use a current public service notice from your agency and summarize it in two sentences. Keep the affected direction and dates in the summary. Follow the agency’s own instructions for real passenger service.
